‘Antiques Roadshow’ for Glasnevin museum
Dublin People 24 Sep 2013
GLASNEVIN Cemetery Museum is hosting an
‘Antiques Roadshow’ style valuation event this weekend.
Members of the public are invited to bring along any uniforms, artifacts, letters, documents or memorabilia relating to the Irish Citizen Army and the Irish Volunteers for valuation.
Some of the country’s leading auctioneers including Ã?amonn De Búrca and Conor Dodd will be on hand to scan over anything that catches their attention and give their opinions on its worth.
A spokesperson for the event said this was an opportunity for the people of Dublin to find out the potential value and story behind any antiques they have around the house.
The museum is also hoping that people will consider lending some of their pieces to their exhibition so they can be enjoyed and appreciated by many.
“We have a premier facility which we believe is an ideal location to house an exhibition commemorating this important time in our Irish history,
? said George McCullough, CEO of Glasnevin Cemetery and Museum.
This year the museum is holding 100th anniversary ceremonies which commemorate the foundation of both organisations in 1913.
“Any items that are loaned to Glasnevin Cemetery Museum will be valued and catalogued with the chance of being displayed for the first time in November at the commemorative events marking the 100-year anniversary of the foundation of the Irish Citizens Army and Irish Volunteers, Mr McCullough added.
“We hope everyone across Ireland, and the world for that matter, will dig deep into their attics and cupboards and bring along any memories of the time, to find out their history.

The valuation days will be held on September 28 and 29, from 1pm to 5pm each day at Glasnevin Museum.
