Fair City stars back Childline campaign
Dublin People 24 Aug 2013
THE teenage stars of RTE’s Fair City are backing Childline’s new
‘Stay Silent So Children Can be Heard’ campaign.
The campaign aims to encourage Dubliners to
‘stay silent’ and help raise funds to support Childline’s on-going leap from a traditional phone listening service into the online world.
Wesley Doyle (Doug), Lauren Murphy (Shannon), Niamh Quirke (Rachel) and Sean Doyle (Callum) are literally putting their money where their mouths are and are asking individuals, groups, schools and workplaces to take part in a 25 minute communication blackout to support the cause
That means no Facebook, no phone, no emailing, no texting, no Twitter and no speaking. The 25 minute silence ties in with Childline’s 25th anniversary and gives those taking part time to think about the 9,773 children who contact the service every week.
Unfortunately, one in three calls go answered due to a lack of funding, even though it often takes immense courage for children to pick up the phone and dial the number.
In May of this year Childline answered its five millionth call but times are changing and the service now wants to immerse itself in the online world.
To support the campaign, log onto www.ispcc.ie for an individual, group, school or workplace
‘Stay Silent’ fundraising pack or call the fundraising team on 1850-504050.
Supporters can also text the word SILENCE to 50300 to donate e2 to Childline, 100 per cent of which goes towards Childline services..
