Anti-austerity candidates team up for local elections
Dublin People 10 Aug 2013
AN anti-austerity team of candidates is set to mount a

“serious
? challenge for seats on Fingal County Council at next year’s local elections.
At a selection meeting held recently in the Bracken Court Hotel, Balbriggan, four candidates were chosen from the Campaign Against Property Tax & Austerity (CAPTA).
The candidates are Cllr Terry Kelleher, Denise Parker, James Faulkner and Maurice Sweeney.
As well as highlighting issues such as the property tax and upcoming water charges, the group is a broad anti-austerity platform. It says the austerity policy is destroying people’s livelihoods and wrecking the economy.
If elected, its councillors will not support cutbacks in council services. They will instead call for progressive taxation to target the wealthy and corporations which they say could raise billions to invest in the economy to create jobs.
In the coming weeks and months, CAPTA will mobilise supporters and people in the area to join and expand the electoral challenge.
