A SWORDS man has been celebrating after wining a surprise e1,000 in a Dublin radio promotion.

Martin Freeney, from Foxwood, opened his door to be greeted by the 98FM Thunders who presented him with the cash prize.

Martin said he was absolutely over the moon and still in shock.

“I’ve never won anything in my life and it couldn’t have come at a better time as we’ve had an awful run of bad luck for the past few years,

? he said.

“My wife Bernadette is recovering from breast cancer so we’ve had a tough time with that and all the austerity measures but when 98FM came along it showed us that there’s light at the end of the tunnel.

“I’ll spend it on a weekend away for myself and Bernie and I’ll buy something for my three boys Michael, Andrew and Francis. I’ve even told Francis we might get to Liverpool to see a match.

He added:

“Anything that we have left over will go to ARC Cancer Support Centre who have been a rock for all of us during my wife’s illness.

98FM’s 40-strong Thunder Team are knocking on the doors of Dublin estates and streets every week throughout the summer and giving people a number to text to be in with a chance to win e1,000.

The 98FM Thunders will be encouraging people in each area to tune into 98FM and text the first song played after the news and sport after 8am and 4pm.

98FM is calling on communities in Dublin and the surrounding area to look out for the Thunder Team and find out how they can be the next to get

‘a grand in their hand’.
