THIS year’s Northside Music Festival kicked off last weekend with an Urban Fleadh at Wolf Tone Square and there’s plenty more great live performances to look forward to throughout the month of August.

The Dublin City Council festival is designed to energise local parks and open spaces by showcasing music from all over the world at a series of free, friendly musical extravaganzas.

“Northside Music Festival is a great opportunity to enjoy free live music in the outdoors,

? said Lord Mayor Oisín Quinn, who launched the festival.

“This year’s programme offers an eclectic and exciting mix and has something for everybody. With children’s drumming workshops at some events it’s another exciting event in the city’s family friendly programme.

The 2013 festival continues this weekend at Fairview Park on Sunday (August 11) when Simeon Smith, DJ Gally, Morro 16 and Bionic Rats will be performing.

The following week on Sunday, August 18, Parade of the Almost, Big September, Vann Music, Key West and Killer Ceol will be entertaining crowds at Father Collins Park.

The final weekend in August will see TM MissElayneous, Ponybois, Crossing Borders, Break Dancers, Dublin Thunder and Nucentz performing at The Plaza in Ballymun on Saturday, August 24 while the following day (Sunday, August 25) The Red Stables in St Anne’s Park will play host to Brian Fleming, Killer Ceol, Barry K and Tig Linn.

Northside Music festival is now in its seventh year. Organised by the council, it’s also supported by Dublin City BID, The Church Bar and Restaurant, Ceoltoiri Chluain, axis Ballymun and a number of local groups and communities.

Admission is free to all events. Drumming workshops in Fairview Park and The Red Stables are available to book on the day and are subject to availability. Dublin City Council is advising those attending the events to come prepared for changeable weather.
