Green light for next phase of sewerage scheme
Dublin People 04 Aug 2013
DUBLIN City Council has been given the green light to award a e3.25 million contract for the next phase of the North Docklands Sewerage Scheme.
The latest step in the ambitious project will see the sewerage infrastructure in the Spencer Dock area upgraded.
This fourth contract for the sewerage scheme will enable the transfer of sewage and surface water flows from Church Road, East Road and part of Sherriff Street, via a new 1,200mm diameter tunnel sewer to the new Spencer Dock Pumping Station.
A follow up contract will deal with the balance of the network upgrade and will include servicing of the remainder of Sheriff Street and Castleforbes Road.
It follows completion of the previous three parts of the contract that has led to the creation of the major Spencer Dock Pumping Station, some rising mains and the River Liffey Services Tunnel.
The Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, Phil Hogan, said the funding for this contract is being provided under his Department’s Water Services Investment Programme 2010-2013.
“On completion of the scheme the high-quality infrastructure, which will be fit to meet the future drainage needs of existing and new development in the North Docklands area, will result in improved quality in the River Liffey,
? the minister said.
“This approval clears the way for Dublin City Council to complete the contract formalities with the successful contractor.

He added:
“I will be pressing the council to get construction underway as soon as possible.
