Community meeting to tackle health issues
Dublin People 04 Aug 2013
A COMMUNITY health awareness evening is taking place on Thursday, August 8 at the Artane & Beaumont Family Recreation Centre on Kilmore Road.
The meeting is being called to address the increasing levels of chronic diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular issues in Ireland.
Referred to as examples of the so-called
“diseases of civilization
?, many of the conditions that drive this trend are as a result of the environment that Irish people find themselves in.
On Thursday, August 8 the communities of Artane, Beaumont and Donnycarney will have an opportunity to come to an informal evening of information about health.
They can complete a brief questionnaire to assess where they are themselves and receive simple, every day recommendations to improve their health and vitality.
In addition, the national associations that tackle some of the commonly seen health issues will be present to provide information and a chat.
These include the Asthma Society, Cross Care (teen counselling), the Parkinson’s Association of Ireland, the Alzheimer Society of Ireland, Pieta House, the Irish Cancer Society and some of the sports physiotherapists of the Dublin seniors and minors GAA team.
The event will also have a notice board with a listing of local options available in the area that provide opportunities for a healthy life such as Weightwatchers, local health food shops, gyms, yoga and Zumba as well as facilities for walking groups and so on.
The idea is that anyone who attends can come away with at least one simple action they can put in place to increase their and their family’s health and vitality.
