Sewage plant consultation reminder issued

DEPUTY Tommy Broughan has issued a reminder to his constituents that the current consultation on the proposed Clonshaugh Sewage Plant will end on Friday August 2.

Objections or submissions must reach the Greater Dublin Drainage Project by that date. For further information visit www.greaterdublindrainage.com.

At a recent meeting of Riverside and Clonshaugh residents at Bonnybrook Parish Pastoral Centre, Deputy Broughan pledged his ongoing support for local residents, businesses and farming interests bitterly opposed to the siting of the plant in Clonshaugh.

“Many residents expressed the hope that all the communities and districts to the east (and downwind) of the proposed plant – including Darndale, Belcamp, Priorswood, Belmayne, Clongriffin, Ayrfield, Donaghmede, Baldoyle, Sutton and Portmarnock – would also assist the Clonshaugh residents’ campaign,

? he said.

A spokesperson for Greater Dublin Drainage said the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) would consider issues relating to potential effects on the environment that may occur as a result of the project.

“Human beings, landscape, visual impact, traffic management and access, effects on air and water quality are examples of relevant topics that people may have specific information or views on that should be considered,

? the spokesperson stated.

It is intended to submit the application for planning approval for the project to An Bord Pleanála in early 2014 and the EIS will form part of the planning application documentation.

Following receipt of planning approval, the preparation of a Design, Build, Operate contract could begin with a view to starting construction in 2017 at the earliest.
