Life’s a beach!

Last week saw the arrival of an official heatwave to our shores as we flocked to the beaches in our thousands. We asked our Facebook friends to tell us about their all-time favourite beaches. Here’s an edited selection of some of the comments we received.

Majella O’Dwyer Rock: Dollymount is the best beach in Dublin – lots of happy memories down there.

Frances Mansfield: When I was young Dollymount was not very safe and there were many drownings. It was because there was a part of it called Curley’s Hole. It was like a channel that got real deep when the tide came in and people did not realise it. When the tide went out it left a big hole that was deep enough to swim in. Rush was my favourite beach. My aunt had a summer house down there and the whole family used to gather around on a Sunday. Sometimes there would be 40 of us.

John Darcy: Dollymount gave me my nickname

‘Scarfoot”+

‘Johnny 2Toes’. Haha!

Aoife Smith: Donabate, without a doubt.

Sean Saunders: Howth.

Anine Gallico: Brittas Bay. It was a 30 mile drive so it was a special day out.

Ri Chard Lux: Inch. Big long strand facing both peninsulas of Dingle and the Ring of Kerry.

Mandy Daly: Has to be Sutton Beach. It’s off the main road so it’s nice and quiet

Pat Mansfield: I remember having to pay into Silver Strand. You had to cross a farmer’s field and he charged you for it.

Sheila Plant: Skerries was our playground when we were growing up. Lovely memories.

Sue Hancox: Bray is brilliant.

John Shortt-Photography: Dollymount. Can’t beat it. Was there today swimming with the kids and rubbish. They loved it.

Martina Scully: Skerries. Loved going there.

Fiona Murphy Douhari: Skerries.

Kathleen Costello: Malahide is best.

Adrian Shortt: Howth, around by Red Rock.

Terry Flood: Donabate. Cleanest in Ireland.

Anne Davis O’Sullivan: Dollymount always.
