A LOCAL woman has won an award for leading a team in an initiative that celebrates physical activity among older people.

Barbara Reddin was a winner of a
‘Spirit of the Games Award’ at the 2013 Go for Life Games.
Her Fingal County team was one of 14 from around the country participating in a festival of fun and sporting activities at Dublin City University.
Go for Life Games is a celebration of physical activity where older people demonstrate that it is never too late to take part in team sports.
Margaret O’Neill, one of the participants from Fingal, said it was a wonderful event.
“The atmosphere was absolutely fantastic,
? she stated.
“I took part in last year’s Games and I couldn’t wait to do it again. Now I’ll be looking forward to the 2014 Games.

Around 40,000 people take part in Go for Life activities annually.
Mary Harkin, Programme Director of Go for Life, paid tribute to Fingal Sports Partnership.
“Go for Life are very fortunate to have great partners in the network of Local Sports Partnerships,
? said Ms Harkin.
“Their enthusiasm and support for the games, and indeed, for all Go for Life activities throughout the year, helped make the event a pleasure for older people and organisers alike to be a part of.

Go for Life Games are based on some of the games played by Go for Life groups around the country.
Participants turned their hand to ‘Lobbers’ (a target game adapted from petanque and boules),
‘Flisk’ (adapted from boccia and horseshoe pitching), and
‘Scidils’ (an adaptation of ten pin bowling with one skittle).
