DUBLIN Rose hopeful Kate O’Farrell, from Malahide, dropped into Howth Lifeboat Station last week to meet the volunteer crew.

As a candidate for the Dublin selection for the Rose of Tralee, Kate, a keen sailor, has chosen the RNLI lifeboats as her charity. During her visit Kate had the chance to talk to members of the lifeboat crew and invite them to the Dublin Gala Rose Ball.

Kate said she first became aware of the Rose of Tralee festival while attending a sailing school in Kerry during her summer holidays.

“It was there that I first met some of the Roses,

? she stated.

“The idea that you could be glamorous and outdoorsy at the same time appealed to me.

“Now that I’ve completed my studies in Applied Social Care in the Institute of Technology in Blanchardstown, I have time to take part.

Kate said she is loving her Rose experience so far.

“It’s great to have the opportunity to raise the profile of such a worthwhile charity as the RNLI and to support their work of saving lives at sea,

? she added.

“As a sea scout leader I’m very aware of what an invaluable asset the lifeboat is,

? she added.

Rose Michael, Howth RNLI fundraising chairperson, said:

“We are delighted that Kate has chosen to highlight the great work done by our volunteer lifeboat crews and we wish her every success.
