YOUTH workers, TDs, councillors, gardai and school principals were among those who gathered recently at Parnell’s GAA Clubhouse, Coolock, for the launch of a Young Community Leaders’ Evaluation report.

Lord Mayor of Dublin, Cllr Naoise O Muiri officially launched the report, which is available for download on www.northsidepartnership.ie and documents the remarkable success of the initiative.

Some of the young leaders who graduated from the first group were there to share their personal accounts of the difference it has made in their lives.

They said they had gained confidence, friendship, and motivation to get involved in their local communities, which they are now doing in ever increasing ways. Young Community Leaders (YCL) is a novel programme offered by the Northside Partnership that provides accredited leadership training to 16-25-year-olds to give them the skills and confidence to become effective leaders within their own communities.

On completion, they graduate with a FETAC level 6 Foundation Certificate in Youth Leadership and Community Action from NUI Galway.

Applications for next year are now open and the form is available for download from www.northsidepartnership.ie or by email from [email protected].

Local councillior Larry O’Toole (SF) said he was delighted to be present at the event to celebrate the endeavours of young people who aspire to be the next generation of leaders in the community.

“The participants come from a wide geographical spread throughout our communities,

? he stated.

“Well done to everyone involved.
