Dublin People 04 May 2013
THIS year’s Fingal Film Festival takes place this week from May 8-10, kicking off on Wednesday night with the premiere of director Tobias Lindholm’s
‘A Hijacking’ at 7pm in the Odeon Cinema Blanchardstown.
The movie stars Pilou Asbaek, Soren Malling and produced by Tomas Radoo and was secured for the festival with support from Eclipse Pictures. Official release date for the film is May 18.
Some big names will be supporting the 2013 event including a new media panel consisting of BAFTA winning writer and director Aisling Walsh; IFTA nominated Ciaran Tanham; animation director of Brown Bag Films, Shane Collins; and Tyrone D Murphy, CEO of Universal Film Magazine and Festival Organisation.
After Wednesday night’s premiere, there’ll be plenty of local and international movie action from all genres to be viewed as part of the festival as well as a number of workshops.
“The finalist films selected from the schedule are incredible,
? says festival creative director, Dave Byrne.
“We had three times the amount of films submitted last year and the shortlisting has been very tough. We are happy with the final selection and believe there is something for everyone in this year’s schedule.
“We are being quite specific in our 2013 schedule layout, ensuring we cater for all age demographics, making the festival more accessible for people who just want to see a good film.
“The final selection of films are from all over the world. We had a huge response internationally this year. We have also had a huge response from Irish media colleges this year, as we made it a priority to engage with film students and embed the festival at grassroot level with the people who will be the future of Irish filmmaking.
“Also, the wealth of talent amongst Irish independents this year has been inspiring, although this made our decision-making a lot more difficult.
?
Workshops at the festival this year will be hosted by a team from Brown Bag Films. There will also be equipment demonstration stands and information on latest innovations in F/X software and make-up.
Main sponsors for the festival is Odeon Cinema and it’s also supported by Fingal County Council who have supplied both funding and premises.
Festival managing director Liz Kenny said organisers were grateful for all the support and sponsorship received.
“We have also received support from the Gathering event,
? she said.
“The festival has also received huge support from local enterprises and without their help and support, this year’s festival would have been extremely difficult to bring to fruition.

Festival awards will be presented at Crowne Plaza, Blanchardstown, on Sunday, May 12 at 8pm.
Access to the festival demonstration stands is free. Tickets to screenings and workshops will be priced at affordable rates with students, unwaged and OAP rates. For full detials check out www.fingalfilmfest.com.
