Niall Mellon volunteers set for new challenge

Niall Mellon Township Trust volunteers get ready for building schools in Kenya.

Southsiders taking part in the next Niall Mellon Township Trust project in October are set for a new challenge.

The Trust will be focusing on education for their blitz in Kenya this year.

The charity, which is renowned for its achievements in house building in Cape Town, is taking on the new challenge as the South African Government is now providing the full housing subsidy.

To date, 350 volunteers have signed up for the ambitious school building programme which will take place outside Nairobi.

Niall Mellon said there will be some sadness with the move from such a beautiful city as Cape Town after 10 years.

However, he said there is great joy in the knowledge that President Zuma’s Government is continuing to build houses for the people of the townships there.

“Now we must focus on a different sector, one of equal importance and which will make a valuable difference to the young children of Kenya,

? stated Mr Mellon.

“At present, many schools throughout the country are, quite literally, falling down.

“This means many children are being denied the education they need to realise their full potential in life.

“We are delighted and encouraged that already 350 volunteers have signed up for our 2013 building blitz.

Mr Mellon said it marks a new beginning in a new country with a new mission to build schools.

“I am very much looking forward to forging ahead along with our volunteers in making a very positive impact to the young children in Africa over the next 10 years,

? he added.

The Niall Mellon Township Trust is taking its first step towards building a brighter educational future for the young children of Kenya.

Veteran volunteer Valerie Kerins said there was no greater achievement than

‘giving back’ for one week to help you come home with a much clearer focus.

“Each year I reunite with friends I have made and will make, delight in witnessing people so happy because our building means the world to them and know that for seven days I have pushed myself away from the norm and can’t ever imagine being more satisfied,

? stated Ms Kerins.

The Niall Mellon Township Trust is now registering volunteers. If you are interested or would like to book a place on the 2013 building blitz in Nairobi, call 01-4948200 or visit www.mntownshiptrust.com
