Malahide tunes up for feast of music

TWO Dublin branches of Comhaltas Ceoltóirà Ã?ireann – Malahide and Craobh Seán Treacy – are working together to host Fleadh Ãtha Cliath in Malahide on the week of May 7 to 12 inclusive.

Comhaltas Ceoltóirà �ireann is the largest group involved in the preservation and promotion of Irish traditional music and is a non-profit movement.
Two days of competitions and five days of other cultural events will take place during Fleadh week.
Malahide Chamber of Commerce have supported the organisers who are pleased to present a programme of events including, recitals, visits to schools, Seisiun in local pubs and venues, singing night, ceili, concert and fringe events.
The events will include:
?¢ Tuesday May 7. The week will open at 8pm in Island View Hotel, Malahide. Music session with song and dance will follow.
?¢ Wednesday May 8. Traditional singing in Gibney’s, Fowler’s and Duffy’s pubs. Young singers will be catered for in the Tennis Club.
?¢ Thursday May 9. Music recital in Malahide Library from 6 to 8pm. Music will be performed by young members from local Comhaltas groups. Later in the evening there will be a Seisiun in all pubs and local hotel.
?¢ Friday May 10. Talented group of Full Set will perform in Duffy’s with more sessions in all of the pubs.
?¢ Saturday May 11. FREE concert in the Mall in New Street from 6.30pm to 10pm. Families especially invited to attend this event. Also, Gibney’s will host
‘Tumbleweed’ and all the other pubs will host traditional music sessions.
?¢ Saturday and Sunday, May 11 and 12. Competitions will take place at Scoil Iosa from 10am to 6pm.
?¢ Sunday May 12. The Fleadh will finish with a music session in Oscar Taylor’s.
