Over 75 per cent pay council’s household charge

OVER 75 per cent of households in the Dublin City Council administrative area paid the household charge by March 31.

Figures released by the council after a request from Northside People show that of the estimated total of properties liable for the charge (190,685), a total of 142,516 had paid. The estimated balance unpaid at March 31 stands at 46,941 and the amount of waivers applied was 1,228.

The total monies received in respect of these

?¬14,685,625. However, the council pointed out that this is not connected to the income received for Dublin City as the Department of the Environment and Local Government pays back the Local Government Fund based on a formula.

Asked how the monies will be spent, a spokeswoman for Dublin City Council said it would provide a programme of services to the value of

?¬811.6 million this year.

“These services range from Housing related, to water and drainage provision, to roads related, to cultural, recreational and amenity related,

? she added.
