Legends: Ray Wilkins, Sammy McIlroy and Bryan Robson are taking on a Southside team in a charity match.

FORMER Man United legends such as Bryan Robson, Ray Wilkins, Frank Stapleton, Sammy McIlroy, David May and Clayton Blackmore are coming to Dublin to play a charity match on the Southside.

They will be taking to the field at the TEK Utd grounds in Deansgrange on Saturday, April 27 in aid of Diabetes Ireland, with kick-off at 3pm.

With two Premier League Winners medals, three FA Cups, two UEFA European competition medals (Cup Winners Cup and Super Cup) as well as his 90 international caps, Bryan Robson is one of the all-time legends of Man Utd and indeed England.

In what will surely be a much anticipated highlight in the sporting calendar this year, Robson will lead out his team that will include Wilkins who has won seven medals across his distinguished playing and managerial career encompassing Rangers and Chelsea alongside his time at Man Utd.

One of the chief organisers of the overall programme of Man Utd Legends XI events is Tony Browne.

Tony, who himself has four children with diabetes, wanted to run a major fundraiser on behalf of the charity.

Tony said:

“It is great to have a player with the legendary status of Bryan Robson flying in to lead this Man Utd Legends XI team in this charity match.

“We have a great selection of legends coming over to play and Bryan and Ray really are the icing on the cake for us. I am delighted to be able to run this event with proceeds going to Diabetes Ireland to support their work here in Ireland as it is vital to our family and so many people in the country.

Kieran O’Leary, the CEO of Diabetes Ireland, added:

“It’s fantastic to see these legends of yesteryear giving up their time to support us.

“It’s a great opportunity for those of us who watched the legends at their peak to see them play once more and reminisce about all the great memories they provided with family and friends.

The game will be held at the TEK Utd grounds in Deansgrange, with kick-off at 3pm. The Legends will be playing a Rosemount XI who themselves achieved local hero status back in the 1980s in what promises to be a very enjoyable day.
