New community centre opens in Holywell
Dublin People 02 Mar 2013
THERE was good news on the amenity front last week when Fingal County Council officially opened a new facility in Swords.

Mayor of Fingal Cllr Cian O’Callaghan opened Holywell Community Centre to the delight of locals.
Like the Applewood Community Centre and the recently constructed Flemington Community Centre in Balbriggan, Holywell Community Centre is a state-of-the-art
‘shared facility’. It was built alongside the newly built Holywell Educate Together National School.
The shared facility is the fruit of a partnership between the Department of Education and Skills and Fingal County Council known as the
‘Fingal Schools Model’.
This award-winning approach to public service development provides for enhanced sporting and recreational facilities across the county.
Fingal County Manager David O’ Connor said:
“The construction of the centre is an excellent example of an integrated approach to the delivery of educational and community facilities.
?
By sharing the large 600m2 sports hall, both the school and community needs are served.
As well as a large hall that will be available for community use outside of school hours, the community centre also has a suite of facilities that are available for community use throughout the day from 9am to 10pm.
These include a range of meeting rooms, a dance studio, and kitchen facilities. A large children’s activity room is also provided in the new facility.
The centre will cater for a diverse range of sporting and recreational activities and the rooms will be available for training, sporting activities, community groups, residents’ associations and dance troupes.
A family fun day, to which the whole community will be invited, will take place in June to celebrate the opening of the centre.
Mayor O’Callaghan said:
“The opening of the Community Centre will pave the way for encouraging and promoting strong community engagement and I’m looking forwarding to joining in the celebrations.
