Local company struggles to fill 26 vacant roles
Dublin People 27 Feb 2013
A NORTHSIDE company is struggling to fill 26 vacant roles, despite the crippling unemployment crisis gripping the country.
The difficulty in filling these paid positions, which are advertised, has raised concerns that a certain cohort of our skilled labour force has left the country to find work.
Redlough Landscapes, based in Dublin 15, is one of the country’s most successful landscape contractors to both commercial and private clients.
For over three weeks the company has advertised the availability of 26 positions on industry specific websites and on FAS.
Despite this less than 10 people applied for the jobs.
Aaron O’ Reilly, business development manager, believes that the low take-up on the positions could be symptomatic of emigration.
“We are flabbergasted by the fact that we’ve struggled to fill the positions,
? he told Northside People.
“To date the level of interest has been very low even though we’ve advertised and put the feelers out among our colleagues. We definitely expected a higher response and level of interest.
?
The company’s 26 positions are real and for payment employment opportunities.
One of the roles requires a highly skilled person, five other positions seek skilled and experienced employees while the 20 other vacant jobs are for general workers with a good education.
According to Mr O’Reilly the positions have been
“put at a salary band in keeping with industry standards
?.
“That certainly isn’t a barrier for potential applicants,
? he explained.
“We’d expected to have to whittle down hundreds of CVs for the jobs.
“There’s a huge crossover between our industry and the construction industry because of the type of work we do.
“My personal fear is that a lot of the country’s skilled workforce have left especially the cohort of people who would have been interested in these jobs before the mass emigration.
?
Redlough Landscapes, whiÂch was established in 1985, employs over 40 full time employees.
“We’ve seen a steady growÂth in the last three years in part because we’ve found the floor in terms of our pricing,
? Mr O’Reilly said.
The Northside company provides services in garden and landscape design, garden building, landscape construction as well as paving, patios, planting and lawns.
Landscape maintenance and sports ground construction is also a big part of the company’s business.
