Bohs man recruiting a new generation of fans!

A NORTHSIDE soccer supporter is driving an initiative to encourage a new generation of people to actively follow Bohemian Football Club.

Blanchardstown local, Tony McCrossan, who is a dedicated Bohs supporter wants to instil in kids the social value and enjoyment of attending home games to cheer on their local soccer team.
The soccer-mad dad has set up a Facebook page and organised buses to transport supporters from Blanchardstown to Boh’s home ground of Dalymount Park with the aim of promoting friendship and integration through soccer.
“I’ve two kids and they absolutely love going to matches with me,
? he said.
“I think it’s really important that children get to go to matches and watch their local team play.
“I feel the children of today think that soccer is just something played by foreign teams and seen on the TVs in their sitting room.
“That doesn’t really give them a chance to actively participate in the game like you can when you are in the stands at Dalymount for example.
“Nothing can replace the atmosphere and the buzz you get from sitting watching your team battle it out on the pitch right in front of you.
?
He added:
“It is great entertainment for families and is a fantastic way to socialise without the need for alcohol.
?
Tony (40) explained how he was an avid Liverpool supporter until five years ago when he decided to focus his passion for soccer instead on a team closer to home.
“I realised I couldn’t afford to go to the matches in England so I just thought why not support a local team
? Tony said.
“I’ve read that the cost of supporters going travelling to England for matches makes
?¬100 million for their Exchequer. I think the Government would be better off promoting our home-grown teams and increasing attendances at sporting events than the Gathering.
?
In an effort to breathe a new lease of life into match attendances and to promote the specially dedicated transport from Blanchardstown, Tony recently set up a Facebook page
‘BFC Dublin 15 Supporters Union’.
“The Dublin 15 region is one of the most ethnically diverse areas in the country,
? he said.
“We hope to unite as many people as possible through football.
“Whether you support Liverpool, Man United or Nigerian team Kano Pillars you’re more than welcome at our club.
