NAMA to make houses available for social housing
Dublin People 26 Jan 2013
DUN Laoghaire Rathdown County Council has confirmed that NAMA currently has plans to make 100 houses in the area available for social housing.
According to the local authority, NAMA has also identified in excess of 300 units in its property portfolio as
“potentially available
? for social housing in the Dún Laoghaire Rathdown area.
The confirmation follows calls from local Sinn Fein activist, Shaun Tracey, who has urged the council to proactively lobby the Government to encourage NAMA to release the units in its property portfolio for social housing.
Mr Tracey said that at 4,389 applicants, the housing waiting list in Dun Laoghaire Rathdown was one of the longest in the State.
“Many of them are living in unsuitable or overcrowded accommodation for up to 10 years,
? he claimed.
“It is incredible to think there are roughly 300 empty housing units in Dún Laoghaire Rathdown in perfectly good condition while there are thousands desperately waiting to be housed.
“I would urge the council to join with Sinn Féin in lobbying the Government to release these homes so they can be put to good use.

A spokesperson for the council confirmed that NAMA had identified in excess of 300 properties in the area as
“potentially available for social housing
?.
“The council has confirmed demand in a number of areas through the Housing Agency which is coordinating the national approach to the engagement with NAMA,
? the spokesperson said.
“There are currently 106 properties under consideration which are being progressed by NAMA and the various property owners and receivers to make available for social housing use.
