Delight as Loughlinstown Pool opens to the public

RESIDENTS of Loughlinstown and surrounding areas have welcomed the opening of the much anticipated new 25-metre six-lane swimming pool in the local Leisure Centre.

The

?¬6.8 million investment in the community facility was funded by Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council and the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport.

A number of local councillors recently dropped by to view the completed works and have a dip in the pool.

Fifteen new jobs have been created with the opening of the new pool, including swimming teachers, lifeguards and leisure instructors, on top of the employment generated in the pool construction phase.

The swimming pool is managed by Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Leisure Services, which already runs the popular Loughlinstown Leisure Centre, and manages community pools at the Glenalbyn, Meadowbrook and Monkstown leisure facilities.

“The local community, existing leisure centre users, and schools in the area will all enjoy swim sessions, lessons, fitness, and fun in the new pool, adding greatly to the leisure and fitness options provided by the Loughlinstown Centre,

? Tom Mowlds, the DLR Leisure Services CEO, said.

“This is an invaluable resource, which can improve the health and well-being of all those who use the pool, and perhaps even help develop some of Ireland’s future national swimming team.

The six-lane pool will open seven days a week, from early morning until 9pm on weekdays, and 5pm at weekends.

There will be public swimming, aqua-fitness, lessons, and family fun swims on offer.

Everyone at the Loughlinstown facility is delighted with the new swimming pool resource, according to centre manager, Clodagh MacGovern.

“The pool will make a tremendous difference to the health and well-being of people of all ages and ability,

? she said.

“Swimming is the absolute best low-impact exercise there is, improving heart and muscle tone, as well as stiff joints, and totally relaxing the mind.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone, from new-borns to expectant mums and OAPs to the pool.

The new pool will operate largely on a

‘pay as you go’ basis, with a child swim costing

?¬3, an adult swim for

?¬5.50, and a family visit for

?¬14 for two adults and two children.

Loughlinstown Leisure Centre has provided a range of leisure amenities in the area for almost 30 years and, with a substantial residential community, as well as large workforces in local business parks like Cherrywood, the opening of the 25-metre indoor pool has been eagerly awaited.
