Celebrity chef Catherine Fulvio and twins Onora and Saorla Heavey (6), are pictured at the Aviva Stadium where they were promoting recycling after the Christmas holidays.
It is estimated that over the Christmas period, Dublin generated approximately 19,758 tonnes of used packaging waste of which Repak is aiming to recycle 50 per cent.
Dublin households generated a total of 6,605,948 bottles of wine, 14,648,267 cans of beer, 19,956,415 soft drinks cans, 12,700,932 beer bottles, 10,995,536 plastic drinks bottles and 1,400,976 sweet boxes.
Darrell Crowe of Repak said:
“Last Christmas we collectively increased our household packaging recycling rate by over seven per cent from 2010.
“With the Christmas festivities, people will have more used packaging to recycle than normal, placing more pressure on recycling collection infrastructure.

To help people find outlets for this excess used packaging Repak have developed a Recyclemore smartphone app. This helps users find information on the nearest recycling facility or alternative bottle bank, making recycling more convenient than ever.
