Charity single released in memory of Donna
Dublin People 05 Jan 2013
A NORTHSIDE musician is to release a charity single this month in memory of his 26-year-old niece to raise money to help other victims of cancer.
Donna Brady, from Kilbarrack, passed away on October 28 2012.
On January 18, Keith Brady will officially launch his heartfelt song titled
‘Her Divinity’, which is his way of grieving for the much loved mum-of-two whose untimely death shocked the local community.
Donna, who worked as youth worker in the area, was diagnosed and sadly died from cervical cancer in the space of just 12 months leaving her two young children Katie (9) and Torrie (7) without a mother.
It’s hoped that the charity single will not only raise awareness of cancer but much-needed money for the Irish Cancer Society.
According to Keith, Donna’s equally brave daughters inspired the idea and lyrics for the song.
“Donna passed away in her family home surrounded by her family which is how she would have wanted it,
? he told Northside People.
“I remember I went out into the back garden to have a cigarette and Torrie came out after me.
“I think she was trying to comfort me but she looked up into the clear sky and said her mammy was up there because she’d gone to live among the stars and angels.
“Torrie said her mam was now the brightest star in the sky and that she would always be up there looking down at us.
“God it was heartbreakingly sad and brought more than a tear to my eye.
?
The following morning Keith, who is in a band called Wolf Regime, decided to put pen to paper to write a song in memory of his niece who he described as
“not just a niece but a good friend
?.
“I needed to do something with my grief and I guess I’ve always just tried to deal with things through music,
? he explained.
“I wrote the lyrics the morning after she died and the song was recorded within three weeks.
?
Donna fought a brave battle against cervical cancer for 12 months. She lived her short life to the full and
“lived
? for her children, according to Keith.
“Even when she was really very sick she stayed positive and strong,
? he said.
“She said she’d beat it, she had to be there for her children but sadly she lost her battle.
“She never complained and never even winced in pain throughout her illness.
“She was kind, generous, funny, compassionate, strong, witty, colourful and sometimes cheeky but above all loving.
?
‘Her Divinity’ is already available to download online but it will be officially launched on January 18 in the Grand Social in the city centre at 8pm.
Every cent earned from the sales of the single will go to the Irish Cancer Society.
“Donna always supported charities and I know a certain amount came out of her bank account every month for the Irish Cancer Society,
? Keith added.
“I know she’d approve of this as a way to make money for the charity, which was so close to her heart.
