TOP sofa retailer and manufacturer DFS Ireland delivered Christmas cheer to patients and families who are in Temple Street Hospital over the Christmas season.

As a festive present, DFS gave a festive Christmas makeover to the Radiology Waiting Room in the Northside based Children’s University Hospital.

The makeover was revealed just before the holiday at a special Christmas-themed storytelling event hosted by bestselling author, Sarah Webb, in the hospital.

Joined by children and their families, Sarah read from her magical children’s books

‘Sally Go Round the Stars’ and

‘Emma the Penguin’, while Santa and his elves watched over.

In addition to providing DFS sofas, handmade in their own factory, the staff of DFS Blanchardstown drew on their creative talents to deliver a complete Christmas makeover to the Radiology Waiting Room.

From tinsel, lights and trees to wreaths and garlands, their hard work ensured that patients and their families can still enjoy some home comforts during the Christmas

Dr Eilish Twomey, Consultant Paediatric Radiologist at Temple Street, thanked DFS Ireland for their generosity in organising the Christmas makeover.

“We appreciate the transformation of the Radiology Waiting Room,

? she said.

“It certainly adds some cheer for the families and children we will be looking after over Christmas.

Lisa Hetherston from Clonsilla, who works for DFS in Blanchardstown, said staff were thrilled to be able to help out.

“I am absolutely chuffed that DFS has given this makeover for Temple Street Children’s Hospital,

? she said.

“It is heart-breaking for families who have sick children in hospital, and especially so at Christmas. My own nephew who was diagnosed with a rare condition has spent some time in Temple Street so I know first hand of the great care that this wonderful hospital provides.

“Thankfully my nephew will be out of hospital for Christmas and will be well enough to visit his Dad in Australia who is working out there, but it’s a different story for many other families.

Lisa’s colleague, Darren Loughlin from Blanchardstown, also has first hand experience of the children’s hospital.

“I was in and out of Temple Street as a child so I know how important it is to bring some home comforts to children in hospital, especially at Christmas time,

? he said.

“It’s great to have the opportunity to use DFS’ expertise in design and manufacture to make Christmas for patients and their families as comfortable as possible.

Author Sarah Webb was also happy to lend her support to the project.

“I am really delighted to support this DFS make over project in Temple Street,

? she said.

“Doctors and nurses do a tremendous job working round the clock to provide the best possible care to children. Supporting them in their hard work and dedication is a huge motivation for me and all those at DFS who worked hard to bring the comforts of home to Temple Street.

“Books are a great comfort to children of all ages. For that reason I’ve donated some picture books and novels to the hospital for children to read while in the waiting room.
