CATHERINE Walsh’s exploits at this year’s Paralympic Games in London were recognised in her home town last week when she received a Civic Honour from Fingal County Council.

Mayor of Fingal Cllr Cian O’Callaghan formally granted the honour to the Swords native at a ceremony in Fingal County Hall.

This award is in recognition of Ms Walsh’s achievements at the Paralympic Games where she won silver and bronze medals, and is on foot of a motion passed by the Fingal councillors on November 12 to grant the honour.

Mayor O’Callaghan said: “The Olympic/Paralympic Games only come around once every four years, and the drive, dedication and success of the Irish Paralympic squad in the 2012 Games is a source of inspiration to us all.

“As Mayor of Fingal, and on behalf of the citizens of Fingal, I’m delighted to have the honour to make this Civic Award to Catherine Walsh, and to congratulate her for her medal winning achievements.”

Along with Fran Meehan, she won a silver medal in the Women’s Para-Cycling Individual

‘B’ Pursuit Final at the London 2012 Paralympic Games. The tandem pair also won a bronze medal in the Women’s Individual Time Trial

‘B’ at Brands Hatch.
