AWARD: Ciara Nally celebrates the funding for O’Dwyer’s GAA Club.

A NORTHSIDE GAA club has received a grant of

?¬1,000 to support the development of a new social centre.

Diageo Ireland has announced that O’Dwyer’s GAA Club, Balbriggan, has been awarded

?¬1,000 to support the fit out of a recently acquired portacabin with a pool table, music centre and recreational area.

The facility will provide a meeting and socialising point for members of O’Dwyer’s.

The award has been made through the Diageo Ireland’s Gifted programme which is now in its third year.

The programme, which runs on an annual basis, allows Diageo employees who volunteer with local community groups or charities to nominate these groups for a donation from the company.

The applicants had to provide details of how a donation from Diageo Ireland would be put to good use by their respective group or charity.

All of the nominations were then considered at length with businesses in the community assisting in this process.

Finally, a total of 18 groups were chosen, with 10 groups receiving

?¬1,000 and a further eight receiving a grant of

?¬5,000.

Ciara Nally, part of the fundraising committee and a credit executive at Diageo Ireland, said she was delighted to have won the award.

“It means a great deal to get the funding which the club badly needs,

? she stated.

“With the funding we hope to fit out a portacabin as a social centre and use the funds to include a pool table, music centre and recreation area for members.

“We also hope from this we can encourage the involvement of members in a healthy and active pastime.
