East Wall proud after winning award
Dublin People 10 Nov 2012
EAST Wall has scooped a prestigious Pride of Place award that recognises the positive community spirit of the area.
The Northside area, which was nominated to represent Dublin in the 2012 All Island Pride of Place competition, claimed top prize in the category for populations of over 1,000.
The competition recognises and celebrates vital contributions that community partnerships make to society.
Marie O’Reilly of the
‘East Wall for All’ umbrella group of local associations said the award was well deserved.
“We are so proud to have lived up to their expectations and we are delighted to have won,
? she told Northside People
“We did feel that when the judges came to visit the area in August that they were impressed with how so many people and the association work together to make East Wall a better place to live.
“There is something for everyone here and there’s a great emphasis on shared space so that senior citizens have no problem going to the youth club and youths go to the senior citizens’ facility for bingo.
“The area has had its problems like all areas but I think we’ve excelled when the whole community pulls together.

Ms O’Reilly added:
“This award recognises the sense of pride we have in our area.

North Inner City ward councillor Nial Ring (Ind) congratulated all those in East Wall on their achievement.
Meanwhile, Donnycarney scooped an award for communities with a population of under 1,000.
