Northsider’s success at producing short films
Dublin People 27 Oct 2012
A NORTHSIDE movie maker is enjoying huge success thanks to his attention-grabbing short films that have been screened around the world.
Multi-award winning film maker, Declan Casssidy from Finglas, says he’s had a massive response to a number of his films, some of which have been funded by the Irish Film Board.
This month will see four of Cassidy’s films being screened throughout the world, including
‘The Bouquet’ which is set to premiere in Rhode Island, USA.
His film,
‘Wedding Planners,’ will be screened in Transylvania and a four-film collection that includes
‘Veroniques’ and
‘Whatever turns you on,’ is already being used as part of the in-flight entertainment service of Etihad Airways.
“I’ve had a huge response to the airline screenings,
? says Cassidy.
“I’ve been contacted from Australia, Asia and the Middle East by people who’ve watched the shorts while travelling and the hits on my website have shot up.
?
He added:
“Young film makers are often advised that shorts are a way of getting attention so you can move on to bigger and better things. I don’t think that’s the case anymore.
“With the small screen revolution of phones such as the new iPhone with its 16:9 screen, more and more people are watching content on the move and short films provide ideal content for this.
?
Mr Cassidy will travel to Romania this month where he will sit on the feature film jury panel at the Comedy Cluj Festival.
“I’ve sat through many a session of short films at various festivals around the world and I’ve seen the popularity of light hearted comedies grow in recent years. I suspect it’s because of the gloomy economic situation around the world. People need cheering up,
? he said.
