A BOOK that explores Fingal’s heritage has been launched.

Mayor of Fingal Cllr Cian O’Callaghan launched

‘Islands, Coast and Quarries: The Geological Heritage of Fingal’ at the White Sands Hotel Portmarnock.

The book, by Matthew Parkes, Aaron Clarke and Sarah Gatley, explores Fingal’s geological heritage using data gathered during a 2007 audit of 21 sites of geological and landscape importance in the county.

Illustrated with stunning contemporary photography, it presents some of the fascinating stories told by the rocks and fossils in these special places.

In concise and non-technical language, it provides the reader with an insight into the forces that have created the landscape of Fingal.

The book is an action of the Fingal Heritage Plan 2011-2017, and it’s hoped that it will open readers’ eyes to the wonders that are right on their doorstep.

There was a good turnout of about 80 people at the launch, and afterwards the author Matthew Parkes led those present on a short tour of the nearby coast to see some interesting geological formations.

If you would like to receive a free copy of the book, email [email protected] or phone 01-8905771.
