Swords band tipped to be the next big thing

EVERY once in a while an Irish band breaks out of the domestic market and impresses across the water.

The most recent band to do this is Kodaline and with that comes the buds of a true success story.

A group of friends grow up within walking distance of each other in Swords, work hard as a band for years only to gain recognition from some of the most loved TV, radio and music personalities in the UK.

Soon the band will be returning to Dublin to play The Sugar Club (October 4) and they will no doubt be given a hero’s welcome.

Stephen Garrigan (lead vocals), Mark Prendergast (guitars and keys), Vinny May Jr (drums) and Jason Boland (bass) make up a band that’s destined for success.

The majority of the line-up may look familiar. The former three members were once part of

’21 Demands’ who found fame on RTE’s

‘You’re A Star’ programme.

The band made Irish music history when their single

‘Give Me A Minute’ went to number one in the charts in 2007, making them the first unsigned band to reach the coveted top spot.

Despite this success

’21 Demands’ failed to maintain their fame and the public seemed to forget about them.

Now however, they have matured not only in age, but also musically and their new form as Kodaline has so far been met with a phenomenal reception.

The four-piece released their EP on September 9 following several video teasers such as the particularly lovable song

‘All I Want’.

This song in particular has created quite a stir in the UK with BBC’s Zane Lowe and Fearne Cotton both singing its praises and calling the band

“the next big thing

?.

Also, it has been added to UK rock station XFM’s playlist, available for fans to request.

And that’s not all. Kodaline have also caught the attention of one very famous face. They earned the phenomenal compliment of being

“incredible

? by none other than

‘Take That’s’ Gary Barlow.

The respected

“man band

? member tweeted that he was listening to

‘All I want’ and was impressed indeed.

With such a strong and prestigious force behind them it would be no surprise if Kodaline went beyond taking the UK and Ireland by storm.

Kodaline will be playing in Dublin’s Sugar Club on October 4 and based on the views of Lowe, Cotton and Barlow, it’s sure to be momentous and possibly the last intimate gig this band will perform in their home city.

They are almost certainly Ireland’s next big thing!
