Campaign to stamp out race hate graffiti

THE Immigrant Council of Ireland is stepping up its campaign to stamp-out race-hate graffiti following a spate of incidents around the city in recent weeks.

Despicable racist graffiti was sprayed in the Phoenix Park, near James’ Hospital and in Tallaght Stadium over the summer months.

On foot of the incidents, the Immigrant Council of Ireland has launched a social media campaign through Twitter and Facebook to establish the extent of the racism across the country.

Members of the public are being asked to highlight any incidents and forward pictures of any graffiti they witness to the council.

According to Denise Charlton, Chief Executive of the Council, campaigns such as this will

“secure Dublin’s future, not the closed minded bigotry of those who have nothing to offer but vandalism, destruction and hate

?.

“In recent weeks we have become aware of incidents of race-hate and Nazi graffiti being sprayed and have become increasingly concerned about the problem, and those behind it,

? she stated.

“There is no acceptable level of racism and the authorities must investigate all incidents in full.

“It is encouraging that in almost every case the local community has rejected the message of the graffiti and sought to have it swiftly removed.

“However, the motives of those behind the messages of hate is a cause of concern and it is important that action is taken to ensure that extremist views are not getting a foothold in our communities.

The Immigrant Council of Ireland assured that any reports of offending messages and graffiti will be reported to the Gardai and to the local authority to be removed.
