Woman presented with photo after 49 years
Dublin People 31 Aug 2012
A WOMAN who appeared in a photograph as a young girl 49 years ago was presented with a copy of it during an exhibition, which took place as part of the Tall Ships Festival.

Evelyn Harte appeared in the photo, which was taken of people on the Liffey Ferry crossing from East Wall to Ringsend during the early 1960s.
The photo featured in the Dublin Dock Workers’ Preservation Society’s photographic exhibition at the festival.
Declan Byrne, a spokesperson for the society, said:
“We succeeded in identifying most of the men on the ferry (the majority were dock workers).
“At the front of the ferry were some young children and we were told they might be from the East Wall area.
“After months of trying we identified the girl in the white coat as Evelyn Harte. At the exhibition, former docker Jimmy Carthy had the pleasure of presenting Evelyn with a copy of the photograph 49 years later. The photo had been donated to the society some months ago.

The Dublin Dock Workers’ Preservation Society started off with 600 photographs (Alan Martin’s private collection plus a donation from Dublin Stevedores).
In less than a year this has risen to 2,600. They were invited to put on the photographic exhibition in the CHQ Building as part of the Tall Ships Festival.
Over the three and a half days more than 2,000 people attended the exhibition and talks.
Mr Byrne said it has been truly amazing for all involved to meet old friends and make new ones while demonstrating the need for a permanent Dock Workers’ Museum in Dublin Port.
“We really appreciate everyone who has donated photographs and as you can see they bring back great memories and give great pleasure,
? he added.
