Decade-long wait for street sign
Dublin People 04 Aug 2012
IT’S taken almost 10 years but Dublin City Council is finally putting up a street sign to identify a Northside housing estate.
Bewildered residents, who had all but given up requesting a sign for Woodhazel Way in Ballymun, have been told that the signage will be erected in the coming weeks.
Woodhazel Way resident Sean Burrows feels it’s beyond comprehension why it’s taken this long for the signage to be erected.
“I moved into my home on Woodhazel Way in 2003,
? he stated.
“Since then I have been waiting for a street sign to be put up but here we are almost 10 years later still waiting.
“This situation can easily be solved.
“The council have told me they have a sign made but they can’t say when we will see it on our road.
?
He added:
“I can’t understand this delay, especially since residents have been waiting so long for the sign.
?
Local TD John Lyons (Lab) explained how the lack of signage has had serious implications.
“This is not just about a simple sign as residents have told me of incidents over the years where the emergency services have been lost trying to find houses on the road,
? he stated.
“Residents are very concerned about this and want to see a road sign put up as soon as possible.
“It is a small thing but it would make a big difference to the residents.
?
Deputy Lyons concluded:
“To raise this issue again, I submitted a question to the Area Manager about the sign and I hope that the manager in his reply will give a commitment to put up the sign as soon as possible.
?
Northside People raised the matter with Dublin City Council who informed us that the signage has been received by the council’s depot.
“An order went in for the sign last April and it was only recently received by our depot,
? a spokesperson stated.
“We hope that it will be erected in the coming weeks but cannot confirm exactly when.
?
The spokesperson was not able to explain the delay in getting the signage commissioned and erected.
