Dublin plays starring role in new Bollywood film

SOME of the best known parts of Dublin are taking centre stage in a new Bollywood blockbuster.

Trinity College, Temple Bar and Grafton Street all feature in the latest teaser video for this summer’s highly-anticipated

‘Ek Tha Tiger’.

The film will be released in 24 countries worldwide, reaching a massive audience of over 100 million people. It was shot in Dublin last autumn and is due to hit the screens on August 15.

The sneak preview of the Bollywood film shows parts of the city as they’ve never been seen before and the video even features some members of the gardai, Kilkenny hurlers and a well-known Grafton Street mime artist.

Starring two of India’s most celebrated actors, Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, the film which means

‘Once There Was A Tiger’, portrays Dublin as a modern, fun and vibrant city, rich in history and culture.

This is the first time that a major Bollywood production was shot in Ireland. Tourism Ireland worked with the Irish Film Board to secure the film for Ireland and with Dublin City Council and other agencies to help facilitate filming in the city.

Niall Gibbons, Tourism Ireland’s chief executive, said:

“Bollywood is deep-rooted in the psyche of most Indians and the films have a considerable influence on Indian travellers when they are deciding on their holiday destination.

‘Ek Tha Tiger’ was shot. We are delighted to have cooperated with the Irish Film Board in securing this important film for Ireland which was also made possible through strong support at Government level.
