Council moves to cut overgrown grass

RESIDENTS of a Southside housing estate have called on their local authority to cut a patch of tall grass on a green space in front of their homes, which they have described as a health hazard.

Lisa Kelly, who lives at Taylor’s Court in Ballyboden, claimed that the grass outside her home had grown to six feet in height.

She said that the long grass was providing a natural hiding place for rats. And there are safety fears for local kids after a little boy who was wandering through the uncut meadow was almost struck by a car when he suddenly found himself on the main road.

“The grass is nearly six foot tall,

? Ms Kelly said.

“And there are rats in there. I saw a rat in my own back garden the other day.

“The week before last a little three-year-old got lost. He was playing in the grass, got completely lost and nobody could see him. He almost ended up out on the main road. This is a serious health and safety issue.

Ms Kelly claimed the council had not cut the grass since last summer even though residents have repeatedly contacted them about carrying out the work.

“We have to fight every year to get it cut,

? she stated.

“We asked the council at the end of April to cut the grass here but we are still waiting. It is the same every year.

A spokesperson at Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council’s Housing Department said it would arrange to have the grass cut this week.

The spokesperson added that they would ensure that it was cut on a regular basis.
