Malahide students claim glamour award
Dublin People 05 May 2012
AN outfit made from magazine pages and chicken wire has landed three Malahide students a top award.
At the European Recycling Platform (ERP) Junk Kouture Grand Final 2012, one of two Glamour Awards was presented to
‘Paperpillion’ and its team – Tanyanat Tipprasert, Sinead O’Rourke and Joy Butdeekham from Malahide Community School.
Tanyanat, who modelled on the night, will now attend the Royal Film Premiere in London later this year and walk the red carpet in her creation.
Fashionable waste was the trend of the day at the final, which saw secondary school students from all over the country compete for the coveted prize worth e6,000.
Following weeks of regional finals around the country, 80 shortlisted finalists took to the stage to showcase their ERP Junk Kouture design made from everyday waste materials from orange peels and feathers to computer cabling, milk cartons and batteries.
Elizabeth O’Donnell of ERP Junk Kouture congratulated all the finalists on their achievement.
Ms O’Donnell said the competition offers students the opportunity to share their common love of design and fashion as well as celebrate their creative output.
“Perhaps more importantly, it also reminds them of the importance of re-using and recycling and finally re-designing,
? she stated.
Yvonne Holmes, Head of Corporate Communications at ERP, said the event has showcased the very best in young Irish design.
“We have been highly impressed by the standard of entry to this competition throughout,
? she stated.
“We would like to congratulate all entrants to the finals. We have been overwhelmed by their enthusiasm and extraordinary creativity and wish them the very best of luck in the future.
