NORTHSIDERS are being urged to turn out in numbers and back a world record attempt on May Bank Holiday Monday (May 7).

The attempt to create a new record for the largest ever Gaelic football lesson in the world will take place at Na Fianna GAA Club, Glasnevin, and organisers issued a rallying call at a launch event attended by a host of inter-county stars of football, hurling, camogie and ladies Gaelic football last week.

“In order to break the record, the lesson must last a minimum of 30 minutes and must have over 528 people taking part

? said Stephen Behan of Na Fianna.

A full team of mentors will be at hand on the day and all equipment will be supplied for participants of all ages. There will be a mentor for each small group and the lesson will be coordinated by Dublin Footballer Jonny Cooper from a platform overlooking the pitch. Dub teammate Bernard Brogan will also be on hand to lend his support.

The world record attempt is sponsored by Experience Gaelic Games, who help promote Gaelic games by taking overseas visitors for introductory playing sessions of football, hurling and handball.

“The day promises to be a real celebration of our unique national sports and as our ambition is to raise the profile of the games internationally, a world record attempt is great way to highlight the games on the international stage,

? said Cormac O’Donnchú of Experience Gaelic Games.

“Breaking a world record may well add to the globalization of our games!

Northsiders who want to support the world record attempt are asked to assemble at Na Fianna GAA Club on Mobhi Road, Glasnevin at 2pm on Bank Holiday Monday, May 7, to take part in what promises to be an amazing spectacle and event.
