Major jobs announcement welcomed
Dublin People 21 Apr 2012
THERE was some very good news at last on the Northside jobs front last week when it was announced that 280 jobs are to be created locally.

Pharmaceutical manufacturer Mylan is to provide the jobs at Gerard Laboratories in Baldoyle and a further 220 in Galway.
The three TDs for Dublin North East – Sean Kenny (Lab), Tommy Broughan (Lab) and Terence Flanagan (FG) – welcomed the announcement.
Deputy Kenny described it as great news for Baldoyle and for Dublin.
“It is a further sign that Ireland is attractive as a location for investment,
? he said.
“At a time when unemployment is at very high levels, this announcement shows that Dublin North East is able to entice investment and the creation of jobs along with that investment.
“Jobs and investment are the only way that our economy will ever properly recover.
?
Deputy Flanagan said that like so many other areas, Baldoyle has suffered its fair share of difficulties in recent years.
“Many young families moved into the area during the boom, paying a high price for their homes,
? he stated.
“Many of these people now find themselves with severely reduced incomes and limited employment opportunities.
“The provision of almost 300 high quality positions will change the lives of those who secure the jobs.
?
Deputy Broughan said: “Given the ongoing jobs catastrophe in the country, the announcement of 280 new jobs at Gerard Laboratories in Baldoyle is to be warmly welcomed both for the jobs themselves and the knock-on effects for the local economy.”
Local Fianna Fáil Senator Averil Power said Dublin remains a very attractive place to do business.
“We have built a strong reputation over the years as a global hub for research and technology, particularly in the areas of pharmaceuticals and medical devices,
? stated Senator Power.
“I am delighted that Mylan has decided to increase its investment here and I hope that more companies will follow suit.
