THE story is new and the hits are all Elvis’s. The music of Elvis Presley will shortly be ringing around Baldoyle when the local musical society sets out to prove that the legend and his songs will live on forever.

Baldoyle Musical Society is staging

‘All Shook Up’ in St Mary’s School, Baldoyle, from Tuesday to Saturday, April 24-28.

Many of the great man’s biggest hits form the backdrop for a

’50s story of teenage rebellion in middle America (think Roadhouse meets Hairspray meets Grease meets Footloose, but with good songs!).

Rehearsals

Chairman of Baldoyle Musical Society, Alan Whyte, said rehearsals for a show have never been such hard work or so much fun.

“The music is so lively and the dancing is both non-stop and hectic,

? Mr Whyte told Northside People.

“This has to be the ultimate all-singing all-dancing show.

Director and long time member Paul Fay is also excited about the show.

“The cast have been working really hard and I’m delighted with the results,

? he said.

“This show will be a real toe-tapping, colourful and fun extravaganza. The choreography is lively and with great songs like

‘Blue Suede Shoes’, ‘Jailhouse Rock’ and

‘Burnin’ Love’, as well as the title track of course, I know our audiences are in for a real treat.

Cast

Baldoyle stalwarts like Damien Hurley, Nicola Pollard, Kathryn Gibbons and Anthony Ennis are to the fore once again and are joined by a huge cast of fellow principals, support players and dancers. It’s probably the biggest cast Baldoyle has seen for many years.

Choreographer and member Karen McCourt had her work cut out moving so many people but has relished the challenge.

Fun

“It’s been really hard work with such a huge cast but we’ve all had great fun and I think that will come across to our audiences when the curtain goes back and the band strikes up,

? she said.

“We were stunned by how many people came along for our first rehearsal.

Testimony

“It is a great testimony to the enduring popularity of Elvis, and Baldoyle Musical Society of course, that we had 20 new members join the society for this show.

Quality

If you’ve ever attended a Baldoyle pantomime you’ll be excited to hear that perennial musical director Ronan Dooney is doing the honours for

‘All Shook Up’ so you’ll know the quality to expect from the pit where the music will really come to life.

You are hereby challenged to sit still for the evening. Go on: just try!
