Enterprising students display their talents

ENTREPRENEURSHIP
is alive and well in Fingal judging by the high standard of entries at the
finals of this years Fingal Student Enterprise Awards, which were held recently
at the Crowne Plaza in Blanchardstown.
In all, 53
student enterprises from 18 secondary schools and eight primary schools took
centre stage at the 11th annual County Final, which is organised every year by
the Fingal County Enterprise Board.
Over 2,000
local students have been researching and running their own businesses in the
Student Enterprise Programme since last September, making it the largest
programme in the country.
A total of 250
students competed for a share of the e10,000 prize fund. The winners were:
?¢ Junior
Category: ‘Belt It Up’, Skerries Community College (winners);
‘Teenzone’,
Colaiste Choilm CBS, Swords (runners-up),
?¢ Intermediate
Category: ‘Capture It’, Blakestown Community School (winners);
‘Christmas
Delivered’, Castleknock College (runners-up).
?¢ Senior
Category:
‘AFL Aid’, Donabate Community College (winner); ‘Gigapen’, St
Joseph’s Secondary School, Rush (runner-up).
For coming
first in the senior category, Donabate Community College won an education trip
to Barcelona.
Dr Marie
Griffin, chief executive of County Dublin VEC, presented the Enterprising
School Spirit Award for secondary schools to Coolmine Community School,
Blanchardstown, and also the County Dublin VEC Award for secondary schools to
Ardgillan Community College.
The
Enterprising School Spirit Award for primary schools was presented by Joe
Harford, chairperson of Fingal County Enterprise Board, and went to
‘Zinc’ at St
Cronan’s Senior National School, Swords.
A special
Innovation Award was also presented to ‘Light Saver’ from Portmarnock Community
School.
Oisin
Geoghegan, chief executive of Fingal County Enterprise Board, presented the
Best Display Award for primary schools to ‘PC4 Enterprises’ from St Oliver
Plunkett School, Malahide.
