Former Dockers to host exhibition
Dublin People 17 Mar 2012
THE Dublin Dock Workers Preservation Society was set
up in early 2011.
The group comprises ex-Dock workers and people
interested in preserving the history of Dublin Port.
The society started collecting old photographs and is
delighted to report that the collection has broken through the 1,400 mark.
Thanks to support from the Dublin Port Company, the
society is holding a photographic exhibition in the Port Centre (covering the
period 1940 to 1990) on Friday, March 23.
Declan Byrne, a spokesperson for the Dublin Dock
Workers Preservation Society, said:
“We have been overwhelmed by the interest
in the exhibition and we have had to restrict the launch to invitation only as
over two hundred people are looking to attend.
“However, those wishing to see the 40 framed photographs
plus over a thousand photos on a screen can do so by calling into the Port
Centre Monday to Friday, March 26-30, from 9am to 5pm.
?
The same exhibition will also be incorporated into the
Five Lamps Arts Festival (April 16-26)
Mr Byrne added:
“We also have plans in the next six
months to put on this exhibition in East Wall, Ringsend and Pearse Street.
Mr Byrne thanked Dublin Port for sponsoring the event,
Alan Martin for setting up the Facebook page-
‘Dublin Dockers’ and a web page
where most of the photographs can be found – www. bluemelon/alanmartin.
He also thanked St Patrick’s Rowing Club, Ringsend and
Kilbarrack Coast Community Programme for their help and all those who donated
photographs.
