Microsoft move a boost for jobs
Dublin People 25 Feb 2012
GLOBAL giant Microsoft is to invest

?¬130 million in
its Grange Castle plant in Clondalkin, creating hundreds of new jobs.
It is expected that 400 construction workers will work
on the project that will employ between 50-70 high skilled staff upon
completion.
Labour’s Joanna Tuffy said this was great news for
West Dublin and a clear vote of confidence in the Irish economy.
“In a week which has seen the high profile visit of
the Chinese Vice Premier, this substantial investment by a global player like
Microsoft is proof that the Government’s message that Ireland is open for
business is getting through,
? she said.
“I am delighted that Microsoft will be using this
investment to develop their cloud computing functions by partly using wind
energy. It has reinforced Ireland’s reputation as a world leader in cloud
computing and IT advancement, as well as highlighting our commitment to
creating a greener economy.
?
She added:
“These new high-end jobs are precisely the
type which we need to be attracting. Coupled in a week that saw 1,000 jobs
created by Paypal, this announcement is a clear sign that the Government’s plan
for job creation is working. I would
also like to commend all the agencies, particularly South Dublin County
Council, who have been involved in helping to make this happen.
?
Meanwhile, Deputy Catherine Byrne (FG) welcomed
Taoiseach Enda Kenny, Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore, Minister for Social Protection,
Joan Burton, and Minister of State Ciaran Cannon, to the Liberties for the
launch of Pathways to Work, the Government’s new plan to help the unemployed
get back to work last week.
“It was very fitting that the launch of Pathways to
Work took place in the heart of the city, beside the Guinness storehouse, which
employed and trained thousands of people in Dublin down through the years,
? she
said.
“This initiative will provide those who are out of
work with a new sense of hope for the future.
?
Deputy Byrne urged jobseekers to engage with their
local employment office, and access the services and supports that are
available to them.
