WALKING THE WALK: Jemson Green

JEMSON Green is a band consisting of five young men
from Raheny looking to reach out further afield with their rock sound with the
launch of their EP

‘Tinted Glass’.

They have become quite well known in their hometown,
playing local gigs and showcasing their own songwriting talents, as well as
performing covers of the bands that most influenced Jemson Green since they
started out in 2007.

The band’s formation took place five years ago, with
four friends joining together in the name of rock music.

After months of practicing, the original line-up took
to the stage in support of Serj Tankein in Dublin’s Ambassador Theatre.

It was around the same time that the band was awarded
the accolade of

‘Single of the Fortnight’ by Hot Press.

The music magazine has more recently described the
band’s latest release as having

“Slash-style guitar Riffage

?, something which
speaks volumes, not only for the obvious talent of lead guitarist and vocalist
Shane Mason, but also for the sheer power of the band.

The new, more solid line-up comprises Shane, lead
vocalist Ronan Power, drummer Shaun Costello, bassist Stephen

‘Bambi’ Morrissey
and rhythm guitarist Steven

‘The Deacon’ McCarthy.

The newly aligned five-piece began writing material
last summer, resulting in the critically acclaimed EP.

‘Tinted Glass’ is a wonderful EP soaked in inspiration
from American rock giants such as Nickleback and The Killers, with a romantic
element hidden behind.

The most memorable track from the EP is

‘Growing
Stranger’, an anti-love song that tells the tale of a once happy couple
drifting apart to the point of barely knowing each other.

It is a track that will undoubtedly catch the
attention of fans of American rock with Power’s strong vocals and the overall
well put together instrumental aspect of the song.

Also worth a mention, and possibly the most intriguing
track on the EP is

‘Take’, which has an air of Stone Roses about the vocals
throughout the verses, and it takes a much softer approach to the genre than
the other tracks on the EP.

Jemson Green have also finished recording a track entitled

‘Raged’ which, both lyrically and melodically, is a radio-friendly song which
could easily ride on the back of increasing popularity of this particular brand
of rock in Ireland, championed most recently by fellow Northsiders, Keywest. It
seems they are on the right path when it comes to success.

Jemson Green is playing their original tunes in Dublin
venue The Button Factory on March 12.

The band has a twitter page, (@jemsongreen), and is
also on facebook.
