FLASHBACK: Pictured are members of Baldoyle Musical Society during their very first production, ‘The Gondoliers’, in April 1973.

NOSTALGIA will fill the air at St Mary’s Hall,
Baldoyle, next month when a local musical society hosts an open reunion event
as part of its 40th anniversary celebrations.

Baldoyle Musical Society has come a long way since it
was founded in 1972 and began to entertain locals and visitors from surrounding
areas.

The society proved to be a creative outlet for the
many young couples coming to live in the expanding suburb at that time.

Since its inception the group have staged 38 full
musicals, the same number of pantomimes, and five three-act plays. They are now
the society with the longest unbroken run of pantomimes in North Dublin.

Several people who played roles with Baldoyle went on
to professional careers including Joan Brosnan-Walsh who played

‘Mags’ in

‘Fair
City’, and Damian Smith and Niamh Murray who were to become well known singers
in Ireland.

As part of the ruby anniversary celebrations, Baldoyle
Musical Society will host an open reunion in St Mary’s Hall, Baldoyle, on
Sunday, March 4 from 1pm to 4pm.

They invite all members, ex-members, patrons, guests,
friends, and everybody who has seen and enjoyed their shows to come along on
the day.

The society is hoping to meet old (and perhaps new!)
friends, share a cup of tea, and see old programmes and photographs, as well as
some DVDs of past productions.

The group have also produced a 34-page (with no
advertising included) booklet outlining in colour their journey through 40
years. This will be on sale at the reunion at a price of

?¬10.
