Dublin welcomes 800 new jobs

THE announcement of a massive jobs boost for Dublin
has been welcomed on the Southside.

A total of 800 jobs will be created over the next two
years at a new Sky customer service centre in Burlington Plaza.

The centre, which will cater for the company’s Irish
customers, will open this August.

Fine Gael TD, Eoghan Murphy, said:

“It has been quite
some time since we have had positive jobs news of this significance in Dublin.

“Not only will this investment have a huge impact on
the lives of those who secure the new roles, it will also bring hundreds of new
workers into the area, which will provide a major boost to local businesses.

“A group of 800 workers has considerable spending
power, which will make a very welcome contribution to the local economy.

He added:

“The jobs will consist of a wide variety of
positions including customer service manager and advisor roles, training,
coaching and HR. This provides a range of opportunities to newly qualified
graduates and other skilled professionals who may find themselves out of work.
Recruitment is beginning immediately.

Deputy Murphy pointed out that every time an
international firm like BSkyB chooses to set up an operation in Ireland, it
added to the country’s reputation as a small, competitive economy that is ripe
for inward investment.

“This positive reputation will be further boosted by
the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs, due to be launched in the coming weeks,
which will make it easier for businesses to create more jobs and foster
growth,

? he said.

Deputy Kevin Humphreys (Lab) described the news as

“heartening

?.

“It is a sign of confidence in the future of Ireland
and Dublin,

? he said.

“The customer service centre will be a fantastic opportunity
for people living in the south city centre area who are struggling with these
difficult economic times.

Meanwhile, Deputy Derek Keating (FG) has welcomed the
announcement by Dualway Group, a Dublin-based transport and tourism company,
that it is creating 30 new jobs in 2012.

“The company is recruiting for tour drivers, guides,
sale promoters, sales executives and a health and safety officer,

? Deputy
Keating said.

“This is excellent news and a great boost for the
Dublin jobs market. Dualway Group is a family run business that has been
operating in the transport and tourism market for over 30 years.

“Last year, the company lost a third of its fleet
during a fire in its depot, so I am especially pleased to see how hard the team
has worked over the last 12 months to rebuild the company and be in the
position it is in to expand its team with 30 new jobs.

He added:

“It is also encouraging to see that the
tourism market, which has been an important focus of this Government, is
thriving and that jobs are being created in this sector.
