Gardai investigate sinister approach to girls
Dublin People 07 Jan 2012
GARDAI are investigating a sinister approach by two
men who allegedly attempted to lure two 11-year-old girls to their van with
sweets in Rush last week.

The shocking incident, which locals have described as
an attempted abduction, occurred at approximately 11.20am last Thursday
morning, January 4, in St Catherine’s estate.
The issue came to light when a mother of one of the
girls issued an alert through a Rush community Facebook page shortly after the
incident.
“At approximately 11.20am this morning my 11-year-old
daughter was approached in St Catherine’s estate near the shop by a man who got
out of a white transit van,
? she wrote.
Sweets
“He attempted to call her over and offered her sweets
if she came over and gave him a hand with a job.
“When she turned and walked away back in the same
direction from where she came, he jumped in the van and reversed after her.
?
Thankfully, the girls escaped and ran home to tell
their parents what happened.
The van is described as being a white Ford Transit
van. One of the men was bald while the other had long dark hair.
The incident was immediately reported to the gardai
who took statements from the young girls.
A spokesperson for the Garda Press Office confirmed to
Northside People that they were investigating a report of a
“suspicious
approach
? that happened involving two 11-year-old girls.
Outrage
The Facebook appeal, which was shared with others
hundreds of times, sparked a wave of outrage, shock and disgust from residents
in Rush, one of whom commented:
“Good grief! Are children not safe anywhere?
How they approach any child. Poor little girl. Hope she is ok.
?
Another shocked parent thanked the mother for highlighting
the incident.
“Oh my God! My two girls play over there all the time.
Thanks for the warning.
?
Meanwhile, an aunt of one of the girls thanked
supporters for their concern and well wishes.
“My sister and brother-in-law have asked me to pass on
their thanks to everyone for their messages of support since the incident
yesterday morning,
? she stated.
“Their daughter is still very shook up but she is ok.
The gardai were around today taking more statements so they are taking this
very seriously.
