Appeal for information following hit and run

THE father of a Northside teenager who was knocked
down in a hit and run incident before Christmas is desperately appealing for
any information that might track down the motorist involved.

Tony Bishop, from Clarehall, contacted Northside
People after his 18-year-old son, Lee, was left with a fractured skull and
bruising on his brain.

Lucky

Lee is lucky to be alive after the terrifying
incident, which happened on Woodbine Road, Raheny, at approximately 6pm on
Thursday, December 15.

The teenager, who had been employed by Dunnes Stores
at the time, was walking to his girlfriend’s house when he was knocked down
while crossing the road.

“All he remembers is seeing a flash of lights as he
crossed the road and being thrown in the air,

? said Mr Bishop.

“He blacked out for a bit so the next thing he
remembers was trying to pull himself up off the road.

“He didn’t know what happened or how long he was on
ground and there was no one around to help him.

“He was wearing a black jacket and the black Dunnes
trousers so he wouldn’t have stood out and the area was unlit.

Shock

“Lee was in a daze, probably in a state of shock, and
bleeding from his head but managed to get to his girlfriend’s house which was
close by.

“But he does remember that a man he passed stopped him
and asked if he was okay and whether he could help him get to his girlfriend’s
house.

When Lee reached his girlfriend’s house and explained
what had happened, his parents and the gardai were called.

He was taken to Beaumont Hospital where it was found
that he’d fractured his skull, had bruising on his brain and had three
fractures under his eye socket.

“Thankfully the neurosurgeons said that the fractures
would hopefully heal themselves and he was also referred to St James’s Hospital
to see an eye specialist who he will attend again later this month,

? stated Mr
Bishop.

“There’s no doubt that Lee is lucky to be alive.

Discharged

Lee was discharged from hospital before Christmas but
the incident left him and his parents shaken.

“He was very swollen and bruised but he’s recovered
well, thankfully,

? said Mr Bishop.

“The doctors gave us a list of things to look out for
with his health so it was a bit of an anxious time.

“He was also told that he can’t work until the
fractures fuse together again and he’s not allowed to play any contact sports
for a few months.

Unlikely

Mr Bishop feels it’s unlikely that the motorist will
come forward but they are hoping that someone will be able to provide them with
information.

“Seeing as the driver drove away from the scene
knowing my son was lying injured on the road, it seems unlikely that they will
hand themselves over to the gardai,

? he added.

“We are hoping that somebody who was in the area at
the time may be able to provide the information we need to catch the person
behind the wheel of the car that ran my son over.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Coolock
Garda Station on 01-6664200.
