Slimming success gives food for thought

SINÃ?AD met her
husband over seven years ago and at the time was happy with her weight. She had
slimmed down after the years of junk food eating and nights out throughout her
college years. She was enjoying her new figure even though she felt she had to
sacrifice a lot to maintain it.

After a couple
of years she moved in with Mark and the inevitable happened as it does to so
many of us, the weight just crept back on.

She enjoyed the
novelty of having her own kitchen and cooking whatever she fancied in the
evenings. Having their own home meant the couple could invite friends around at
the weekend for a few drinks and a table full of munchies – crisps, dips,
buttery popcorn – they thought nothing of it.

Needless to say
it didn’t take long in this new routine for Sinéad to have piled on three and a
half stone in what felt like the blink of an eye.

Yoyo

Sinéad admits
to

‘yoyo’ dieting for as long as she can remember but it was in the summer of
2009 when she got engaged that she realised she was going to have to go on the
diet of all diets.

She tried every
plan going not to mention personal training sessions in the gym and at one
point was only eating 1,400 calories a day.

Sinéad says:

“I
knew it wasn’t maintainable, I was starving and felt completely deprived as I
cut out all of the things I enjoyed in order to lose the weight I did before my
wedding.

“However, my

‘Big Day’ kept me focused and I would worry about what to try next once that
was over’. She felt happy with her weight on her wedding day but had plateaued
about five months before and no matter what plan she followed, how strict she
was with herself or how much exercise she did she just couldn’t shift another
pound.

After her
honeymoon, a Slimming World flyer came in her door and ended up being her
salvation.

Rumours

Sinéad had
heard about this

‘magical plan’ from friends in the UK where she had heard
rumours that she could eat as much lean meat, vegetables, pasta, rice and
potatoes as she liked. However, after years of being brainwashed that all these
foods were

‘bad for you’ she was very sceptical.

She hadn’t
realised that Slimming World had come to Ireland but once she saw the flyer she
automatically thought:

“I’ll give it a go

?.

That was the
start of a magical journey for Sinéad. From the minute she walked nervously
into her first group she knew it was different to anything else she had ever
tried.

Sinéad says:

“The feeling in the group was completely different than anywhere I’d been
before.

“The other members were so friendly, and the consultant was extremely
welcoming and put me at ease straight away.

Sinéad
automatically felt part of something special. The best thing of all was that
all the rumours she had heard about all the food she could eat without
weighing, measuring or counting were true.

For someone who
believed they were

‘the weight they were just meant to be’ this was phenomenal.

Sinéad never
turned back after that day and the first week when she was thrilled to have
lost three and a half pounds. She loves the plan and never has to worry about
maintenance because she doesn’t have to sacrifice anything.

Sinéad is
opening her own Slimming World group in Belgrove Junior Boys’ School, Clontarf,
on Tuesday, January 3 at 7.30pm and would love to see you there. You can call
Sinéad on 087-9223522 for more information.
