SPORTING HISTORY: Unidare’s Brian Gibson on the attack during their historic match

A LITTLE piece of history was created last month when
Ballymun hosted a competitive game of rugby for the first time.

Unidare RFC played Tallaght RFC in the Leinster Junior
League at Balcurris Park on Saturday, November 12, and the home side came away
with an 8-5 victory in a hard fought game.

The senior game was preceded by an Under-17 game
between Unidare and North Kildare. The Unidare youths, many of whom were
playing their first ever game of rugby, fought valiantly against a much more
experienced North Kildare team but were eventually beaten 37-0.

Unidare’s Chairman, Kevin Furey, was happy with the
performance of both the senior and junior sides as well as the support they
got.

“I was delighted that so many local people came out to
support the club,

? he said.

“The future is bright for rugby in Ballymun and
Finglas.

Established in 1958, Unidare RFC is actively
recruiting new players. For further information visit www.unidarerfc.com or
